A mix or rain, ice and snow took down power lines and made travel dangerous, leading to a slew of closures.

A law passed in March extended the governor’s disaster declaration until Nov. 15. Health care and municipal organizations recently urged another extension, saying the declaration is needed to allow them to better respond to the pandemic. 

“People lined up at City Hall before 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning, waiting for the city to print out paper applications when they were available at 8,” said Catholic Community Service Executive Director Erin Walker-Tolles.

The National Weather Service forecasts two separate storm systems and the potential for flooding later in the weekend. 

Of the new cases reported statewide, seven were reported in Juneau.
