Juneau’s Housing First opening delayed until September
The 32-unit Housing First apartments built to house Juneau’s most vulnerable homeless residents won’t open until mid-September. The $8.2 million project is modeled after similar housing projects in Anchorage, Fairbanks and other parts of the country.

In vote after vote, a divided Juneau Assembly set its list of $47 million in sales tax-funded projects. Infrastructure for wastewater, drinking water, municipal buildings and airport improvements are high on the list.
Juneau Assembly weighs competing proposals for sales tax funding
The Juneau Assembly is deciding this week which projects would be eligible for sales tax funding. Voters will likely be asked in October whether to extend 1 percent of the local sales tax for another five years.
Ed Mercer promoted to chief of Juneau Police Department
The Juneau Police Department’s deputy chief is being promoted to the top job. Ed Mercer will replace outgoing chief Bryce Johnson at the end of July.
