Juneau Police Chief Bryce Johson said the crime bill made it less risky to commit property crime and its intended rehabilitation options haven’t come online yet. At the same time, state prosecutors are pursuing fewer cases because of state budget cuts.
One shot was fired in an officer-involved shooting Saturday, according to the Juneau Police Department. Police say Sgt. Chris Gifford fired the shot that injured Jeremie Shaun Tinney, 38, of Juneau while officers were investigating a single-vehicle crash in the 16500 block of Ocean View Drive.
A man who was shot by a Juneau police officer was medevaced to Seattle and is expected to live. The police, the Department of Law and the Alaska Bureau of Investigation are trying to determine why lethal force was used.
