Sitka man charged with arson in Juneau
A Sitka man has been arrested and charged with arson in Juneau after allegedly setting fire to an Auke Bay Harbor business late last night (Wednesday). A judge Thursday set his bail at $500,000 cash.
Comments due on Greens Creek mine tailings expansion draft EIS
The public comment period ends Monday June 4th for a proposal to expand the tailings facility at a Juneau area mine. The Hecla Greens Creek silver mine on Admiralty Island is one of Juneau’s largest employers. But the facility also straddles a boundary for the Admiralty Island National Monument, one of the more-pristine areas in Southeast Alaska.
A weekend of Juneau high school graduations
Juneau’s three high schools held commencement ceremonies over the weekend, with 35 students graduating from Yakoosge Dakahidi Alternative School, about 205 from Juneau-Douglas High School, and 129 from Thunder Mountain High School.
