Walker wants the legislature to consider a tax targeting undeveloped natural gas still in the ground, and buying out Canadian pipeline builder TransCanada’s ownership stake in a proposed natural gas pipeline.

The League of Women Voters held a forum Wednesday evening to vet candidates for Juneau’s borough assembly, mayor and school board.

The ordinance extends the moratorium to Dec. 31 and gives the city more time to adopt new land use regulations following last fall’s successful ballot measure to legalize marijuana.

“There can’t be any more slop over from that date because you know, then we’re running into tourist season and then there’s a big problem,” said assembly member Karen Crane.

Crew members will be available for tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tours are about 15 to 20 minutes long.

State law requires Walker to give lawmakers 30 days of advance notice, so the special session will not begin until late October at the earliest.
