Empress passenger films evacuation

Mary Crosby of Seattle was one of the two-hundred-six passengers evacuated from the Empress of the North early Monday morning in Icy Strait. Crosby is 83 years old. Like other passengers, she wasn’t allowed to take her luggage with her. So Crosby grabbed her medicine and her videocamera and documented the 8-hour-long evacuation from her wheelchair.

K-T-O-O got a copy of her amateur video, and reporter John Ryan used it to put together this audio post card. In it, Crosby provides a first-hand account as passengers are evacuated from the crippled paddle-wheel ship, onto other ships that came to help, and eventually onto the state ferry Columbia.
