Sealaska proposes Native-managed timber trust

Southeast Alaska’s regional Native corporation has a plan to revitalize the area’s timber industry. Sealaska on Monday proposed putting most Southeast timber lands under the control of a Native-managed timber trust. That organization would oversee logging and marketing under a regional brand. And it would bypass many of the current regulatory roadblocks Tongass National Forest loggers face.
