The Alaska Senate voted 17-1 to remove Republican Eagle River Sen. Lora Reinbold as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday. 

It may be the first time an Alaska governor has not delivered the annual speech in person to the Legislature. The speech will be broadcast at 7 p.m. Thursday on the governor’s Facebook page and public broadcasting.

But, these are preliminary results, and, as Alaska is the last state in the country to begin to count absentee ballots, the outcome of close races won’t be known for at least a week after Election Day.

Davis was the first Black woman to be elected to Alaska’s state House of Representatives, and the first Black Alaskan elected to the state Senate. She also served three terms on the Anchorage School Board.

Dunleavy thanked the Legislature for approving the plan.

In the first five days of last week there were 4,046 new claims.

In his second attempt to replace the late Anchorage Republican state Sen. Chris Birch, Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy has picked state Rep. Josh Revak.

Stevens, Dunleavy’s new chief of staff, once left his job in the state Senate amid a federal corruption investigation, though he was never charged. Now, he re-enters public service with links to some of the same industries that found favor from his father, the late U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens.

The seat became vacant in August when Sen. Chris Birch died suddenly from heart complications.

Less than a year into his first term as an Alaska state representative, Laddie Shaw has been selected to fill the Senate seat of the late Chris Birch.
