Well, I have three sons who have graduated from the school system. When we first moved to Juneau, my oldest son finished out his high school at Juneau-Douglas High School. My next two sons, they went to Thunder Mountain High School. My middle son, he spent his first four years in the public school system and then we pulled him out. He was falling behind in reading. Then he remained in private school all the way up until the eighth grade. The youngest one was in private school from kindergarten all the way through the end of seventh grade. And then he went into the public school system in eighth grade.

I am a parent of students that attend Juneau-Douglas district schools. I’m pretty active following the actions of the school board. So, I have communicated with the superintendent with various board members, about policies or what thoughts are just having general discussions on the direction of our district and also congratulating, taking time opportunities to actually congratulate our administrative staff for the jobs that they’ve been doing for our students throughout this pandemic.

I am a parent. I have two school-age children. I’m also a taxpayer and I feel that all people are eligible to run for all offices.

I am the proud parent of a second grader at Harborview Elementary. I’m also a co-founder of SouthEast Exchange, which is a community partnership between local science professionals and the Juneau School District with the goal of bringing place-based and hands-on learning opportunities into classrooms. I’ve spent many hours in classrooms, especially at Floyd Dryden Middle School, and I’m also involved in NOAA’s Sea Week programs.
