This past weekend, a Juneau Preparedness Expo gave the public a variety of information on how to cope in an emergency. One lecture more relevant than ever was on mudslides and landslides, just weeks after Sitka’s deadly disaster.

Is climate change a religious issue? A group of Alaskans says yes. They joined together this weekend in Anchorage for an interfaith Earth Care Jamboree.

Years of drought have helped fuel two fast-moving blazes near San Francisco. Gov. Jerry Brown said his emergency declaration will speed up the removal of debris caused by the fires.

The National Weather Serivce has issued a flood watch for Juneau, Gustavus and Hoonah starting Thursday afternoon.

“We get influence from tropical systems frequently. The unique thing about this is we can see it on the map and that’s pretty unusual.”

Search teams in Sitka were racing the clock Friday as they worked to find the third victim of Tuesday’s landslide before the arrival of a new storm.
