The Alaska Coalition on Housing and Homelessness has warned that a camping ban targeting the homeless could imperil Juneau’s access to federal grant dollars. This is an issue some Assembly members want addressed before the ordinance goes to a vote on Feb. 13.

Previous attempts by the city’s Docks and Harbors division and university at forging a joint plan stalled last year. But University of Alaska Southeast Chancellor Rick Caulfield said Monday that the university remains open to compromise.

There will be two budget meetings – one at 6 pm Tuesday in the Juneau-Douglas High School library and one at the same time Wednesday in the Thunder Mountain High School library.

The modifications are the result of code changes that happened after the design work had been completed.

CCFR had to remove the vehicle’s top to free McVay, and then responders put him in a litter and carried him out of “dense vegetation.”

At one point both the city of Juneau and University of Alaska Southeast were working on a joint plan to acquire the property but that stalled last year. Both have ambitious plans on how to develop the prime waterfront property on Auke Bay.
