Douglas burglar makes off with $170,000 of cash and goods

The Juneau Police Department says about $170,000 in cash, gold, jewelry and goods are missing after a weekend burglary on Douglas.

Department spokeswoman Erann Kalwara confirmed that figure is correct: $170,000.

According to a police news release, someone likely broke in through a second-story window on a building off North Douglas Highway near the roundabout. The burglary affected a business and a private residence in the same building.

The missing goods also include two rifles and a large safe.

Police say the burglary likely occurred between 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 a.m. Sunday. The property owner notified police Sunday afternoon.

Police are investigating the case.
