Kenai residents protest prayer at borough assembly meeting

At Tuesday’s Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly meeting, some people testified against the Christian prayer that is typically said at the beginning of meetings.

Several people said that they consider the prayer to be a violation of the separation of church and state. The Borough Clerk’s office reports that no kind of change to the structure of the meetings has been brought forward by any of the Assembly Members as of Thursday at 4 p.m.

The Borough Clerk says that the ‘invocation’ is written into the agenda preparation section of code (title 22.40.090). She says the code would have to be revised per an ordinance to eliminate the prayer.
