KTOO’s internship program offers real-world experience in public media to aspiring high school seniors, college students and recent college graduates. As an intern at KTOO, you won’t be asked to fetch coffee or stand in front of the copier making copies. You’ll have the opportunity to create your own work products, with one-on-one coaching from one of our award-winning public media professionals. We’ll help you build your skills and your portfolio, and we’ll share your work with our viewers, listeners and readers.
The program is open to college undergraduates and graduate students, and recent graduates. We will also consider exceptional high school students who are ready to make a substantial commitment.
If you are smart and creative, we want you to apply. Just complete the online application and share some samples of your previous work. KTOO interns are paid $12.22 an hour, and while we can’t offer transportation or a housing allowance, we will assistant interns with finding affordable housing, including house sitting arrangements. Internships can be full-time or part-time.
You can apply anytime, and our internship committee reviews applications on a rolling basis. If you are selected, you’ll be assigned a staff member as a mentor and trainer. The staff member will meet regularly with you, provide assistance and feedback and provide you with a final evaluation. While you are here, we’ll ask you to share your internship experience through social media.
The KTOO internship program is funded in part by generous gifts from the Leighty Foundation and the Alaska Broadcasters Association.
We offer multiple internships in three semesters:
