Monday was the one-year anniversary of the discovery of a double murder in a West Juneau condo.
The Juneau Police Department has been investigating the case, but has not named any suspects, made any arrests or filed any charges in it.
Department spokesman Lt. David Campbell said there has been progress, though.
“We recognize that this is a big case for the community, that there’s a lot of people that are very interested in it. It is very serious. It’s high on our priority list,” Campbell said. “I mean, it is a case that we would like to see resolved, to give people, you know, peace of mind about their town. Again, we can’t say too much because it is an active investigation, but a lot of work has gone into it and I’m very hopeful that at some point in time we will have resolution.”
Campbell said he couldn’t elaborate on the progress.
“As far as, you know, officially saying, the police department has done x, y, or z? We don’t have anything specific to release to the public, other than it still is an active case that the detectives are actively looking at,” Campbell said.
Campbell noted there is no statute of limitation for murder. He said the department wants to make sure the case is handled right.
The shooting victims were 34-year-old Elizabeth K. Tonsmeire and 36-year-old Robert H. Meireis, both of Juneau.
