Walt Monegan is, again, the commissioner for the Department of Public Safety.

Gov. Bill Walker announced the appointment in a press release Thursday that Monegan will replace outgoing Commissioner Gary Folger, who is retiring at the end of May.

Monegan was chief of the Anchorage Police Department from 2001 until 2006.

He previously served as the commissioner of the Department of Public Safety under Gov. Sarah Palin from 2006 through 2008, when he was ousted as a result of the Troopergate scandal.
