The phenomenon known as “rusting rivers” happens when once-clear streams release highly acidic and metal-laden water, which pose a direct threat to fish and vegetation. It’s happening throughout Alaska’s Brooks Range.

The park could have around 9 miles of trails when it’s completed.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game euthanized the black bear after it was “mortally wounded” by a resident near Willoughby Ave. on Thursday morning.

The money would come from a grant program that aims to help state, local and tribal governments prepare for flooding, erosion, earthquakes and more.

The evacuation zone is larger than last year, though forecasters say they expect the flood to be around the same size.

The baling process significantly reduces how much space the garbage occupies, solving a major real estate problem. But it also takes a lot of power, which historically has come from the local utility, Alaska Power and Telephone.
