Voters in Alaska have begun casting ballots in the state’s August 18 Primary Election. KTOO, Alaska Beacon, Alaska Public Media and the Anchorage Daily News collaborated to publish a voter guide intended to help Alaskans make informed choices when they vote.
Each news organization asked its readers, viewers and listeners this basic question: What do you want candidates to talk about? We brought those issues to the candidates for governor and lieutenant governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, state Senate and state House.
Our guide allows you to see how they responded to questions about those topics and compare their answers. While some candidates did not participate, we reached out to all of them multiple times in multiple ways to ensure everyone had an opportunity to respond.
Voters pick one candidate for each race in the primary election. Only four candidates in each race who receive the most votes will advance to the general election.
Polls for the primary election close at 8 p.m. Alaska Daylight Time on Aug. 18.
