A community-wide search and rescue is underway in Angoon for a man who hasn’t been seen since he left to go fishing Tuesday morning.

Angoon is a Southeast Alaska community on Admiralty Island near Juneau. According to Alaska State Troopers, 35-year-old Roger Williams, Jr. was reportedly last known to be taking his red and silver 16-foot Lund boat from the Angoon boat harbor to the ferry terminal to go cockle fishing.

He was last seen at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday wearing a brown Carhartt jacket, black pants, and boots.

Troopers say at about 8 p.m., the U.S. Coast Guard discovered an unoccupied 16-foot Lund skiff near the shoreline between Killisnoo Island and Angoon.

The Coast Guard is continuing to search for Williams via helicopter, and a communitywide search is also underway. Wrangell search and rescue teams are also assisting in the search.
