A Juneau man was charged with two felonies this weekend after he struck and seriously injured a pedestrian early Sunday morning on Douglas Island.

According to an information release, Juneau police received a report at just before 1 a.m. on Sunday that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian in the parking lot of Savikko Park in South Douglas.

Police identified the driver as 32-year-old Juneau resident Darien McCallum and said he did not remain at the scene after the collision. However, police say he later came to the department’s substation and spoke to officers Sunday afternoon. He was arrested and charged with two felonies.

Police did not name the pedestrian who was hit, but said they were a 49-year-old Juneau resident. Emergency responders found the pedestrian injured on a trail near the Sandy Beach parking lot. They were transported to the hospital, and later medevaced to Seattle. Their injuries included a broken pelvis.

In a separate incident on Saturday, a driver hit a woman who was biking on Glacier Highway near Alaway Avenue, according to Juneau police. The driver remained at the scene and the cyclist was brought to the hospital with minor injuries.
