In this newscast:

  • The preliminary results for Juneau’s 2026 municipal election are in. They show that residents want to implement a new seasonal sales tax in Juneau next year and are split on two other tax-related propositions in the capital city.
  • The USS Ted Stevens arrived in downtown Juneau Wednesday. The 510-foot-long missile destroyer’s visit comes after its commissioning ceremony in Whittier on Saturday.
  • Controversial surveillance cameras that were designed to share data with law enforcement have recently sprung up in Anchorage this month. At least one there has already been cut down. And a map where people can report these cameras shows several in downtown Juneau.
  • October is Filipino American History Month – a time to reflect on the history of Filipinos in Alaska and across the country. It can also be very personal. KTOO’s Mike Lane visited with Kaye Roldan, head of the cultural committee for Filipino Community, Inc., about the month, her own family history and growing up in Juneau.
  • With a month left before Election Day, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins has a big lead in fundraising. That’s according to campaign finance reports filed Monday that cover the period from Aug. 9 through Friday.
