A 26-year-old Juneau motorcyclist died Thursday after colliding with a U.S. Postal Service vehicle while traveling on Douglas Island.
According to the Juneau Police Department, the crash happened just before 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon on North Douglas Highway. Police identified the motorcyclist on Friday as 26-year-old Juneau resident Ryan Jollimore.
According to a preliminary investigation by police, Jollimore died shortly after the Honda motorcycle he was driving struck a postal service vehicle. Both were headed south toward the bridge. When the postal vehicle turned into the other lane, the motorcycle struck it on the driver’s side. The collision occurred in the 3900 block of the highway.
Police did not identify the driver of the postal vehicle, who was uninjured in the collision. According to the department, an investigation into the crash is still underway, and no charges have been filed.
