MK MacNaughton’s “Grit”
For Juneau’s January First Friday, artist MK MacNaughton hung the first of 52 portraits at the Juneau Arts and Culture Center. The year-long show is called “Grit” and KTOO’s Scott Burton shot a video of MacNaughton as she hung portrait number two.
Worl Skates Into the Burke
The Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture in Seattle recently opened an exhibit called “Here and Now: Native Artists Inspired.” Among the new works by the contemporary artists, are two skateboard decks that Juneau-based Tlingit artist Rico Lanáat’ Worl designed and painted. Poetry Out Loud 2014
The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation have partnered with U.S. state arts agencies to support Poetry Out Loud, a contest that encourages the nation’s youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage.
