Bond set for man facing charges in girlfriend’s death
Bail for a 27-year-old Albert Peter Macasaet III, who is accused in the strangling death of his girlfriend, was set for $100,000 Tuesday, Aug. 16, as well as the terms and conditions of his release.

Injured hiker rescued from Deer Mountain in Ketchikan
An injured hiker was rescued Saturday afternoon on Deer Mountain, Ketchikan. Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad was alerted at about 12:30 pm Saturday that the hiker, identified as Robert U. Pace, 54, of Ketchikan, suffered a knee injury and was experiencing seizures, said Jerry Kiffer, member of the rescue squad.
Ketchikan youth detention facility to close Sept. 15
The Ketchikan Regional Youth Facility, a detention center for juvenile offenders, will close Sept. 15. The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services announced Monday that the closure will mean the loss of 15 jobs, and that Ketchikan-area youth who require detention now will be sent to Juneau.
