Two teenagers in Juneau who were reported missing by Juneau Police Monday morning have been found dead.
According to an information release Monday night, police say the bodies of 16-year-olds Leotis Phillips and Zoey Clark were discovered Monday afternoon around 2:25 p.m. in a wooded area in Lemon Creek.
Earlier Monday morning, police and family reported the pair had gone missing from their homes in the Mendenhall Valley, and may have had access to a firearm. A firearm was located near their bodies, and police say it appears the two died from gunshot wounds.
“The Juneau Police Department extends its condolences to the families, friends, classmates, and others affected by this loss,” the release stated.
Police say the investigation into their deaths remains ongoing, and their bodies will be sent to the Alaska State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for autopsies.
Police say the Juneau School District plans to make support and counseling services available to students and staff affected by their deaths.

Juneau Police are asking for help finding two teens in Juneau who went missing Monday morning and may have access to a firearm.
According to police, 16-year-olds Leotis Phillips and Zoey Clark were reported missing from their homes on Kanata Street and Teal Street in the Mendenhall Valley earlier this morning.
Police believe the pair are together.
Police describe Phillips as an Alaska Native male, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing between 140 and 160 pounds, with long black hair, typically in a ponytail, and brown eyes. He often wears a purple bandana around his neck, a black hooded sweatshirt, and brown pants. Police describe Clark as a white female, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing roughly 140 pounds.
