Primary Election Day is this Tuesday, Aug. 18. Voters can choose which candidates for governor, U.S House and Senate, and their local state legislators will move on to the General Election.
Voters can select one candidate for each race. The top four vote-getters in the primary will advance to the general election on Nov. 6.
The primary ballot will list 17 candidates for governor, 15 candidates for U.S House and 16 candidates for U.S Senate.
There are two state House seats that represent Juneau. House District 3 represents the Mendenhall Valley, Auke Bay, Out the Road communities and the northern panhandle. Annette Kreitzer is a Haines Republican challenging Andi Story, D-Juneau, who has been in office since 2018.
House District 4 includes Downtown Juneau, Douglas, Lemon Creek and the Juneau International Airport area. Incumbent Sarah Hannan, a Democrat, is running uncontested this year.
The seat filled by Sen. Jesse Kiehl, D-Juneau, is not up for election this year.

Early and absentee voting has been open. In Juneau, voters can go to the State Office Building downtown or to the Division of Elections Region One office in the Mendenhall Mall Annex. Both polling places are open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Region One office is also open this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
On Election Day, 12 polling places will open in Juneau from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents can find which voting precinct they are in, and the associated polling place on the division’s precinct map. The State Office Building and Juneau Tlingit & Haida Community Council are two new polling locations this year.
