Dallas Police Chief David Brown says three officers were shot and killed, and seven others and one civilian wounded by two snipers. He said at a late-night press conference that one of the suspects appears to have been cornered by authorities, and that police are investigating the possibility of a bomb.

The shooting occurred during a protest in downtown Dallas against the shootings earlier this week of two African-American men by white police officers in Baton Rouge, La., and suburban St. Paul, Minn.

Member station KERA reports:

“Gunfire broke out around 8:45 p.m. Thursday. Protesters were marching along a street in downtown when the shots erupted and the crowd scattered, seeking cover.

“Scores of police and security officers were on hand.

“Javier Giribet-Vargas, a KERA intern, was covering the protests when the shootings happened. ‘I don’t know what happened, but by the Bank of America building, there was a shooting; I ran, I dropped my phone. There’s like 30 to 40 cop cars, probably more.’ “

The earliest reports of the video came via witnesses who had been documenting the protest march on social media. (Editor’s note: The following video includes language some may find objectionable.)
