When a Sportsman’s Warehouse employee asked the suspect to return items he had not paid for, the suspect allegedly took a hatchet out of the basket and swung it at an employee before taking off on foot.
The 23 year old female victim told police dispatch Wednesday afternoon that Asma Fifita, 30, stole her phone, keys and silver 2016 Dodge Journey from the 3400 block of Foster Avenue in Douglas.
Another store employee posted a photo of the robbery suspect from store cameras to various Facebook pages. The cashier who was robbed said she’ll sleep better after the arrest.
The suspect is at large. In a news release, the Juneau Police Department described him as a thin, 6-foot-2 man with reddish-brown eyebrows.
An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen and has not been recovered from the downtown shop. Police have arrested a 23-year-old suspect.
Juneau police say they were able to arrest a robbery suspect with the help of a witness who chased the man down and detained him until officers arrived.
The shooting will be investigated by the state’s Office of Special Prosecutions to assess whether the two officers were justified in using deadly force.
