Working in their living rooms and at kitchen tables, Anchorage residents are meeting a growing demand for candy leis for graduations, Mother’s Day and more.
Suggested donations are nonperishable foods like flour, sugar and canned goods. There’s also an option to donate at a website set up through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Juneau.
The money is supposed to be used to help with COVID-19 testing and administering vaccines. And, each grant comes with the requirement that at least 10% has to go toward activities that address obstacles to health, like poverty or discrimination.
Economic factors play a role in certain groups’ transmission, hospitalization and death rates.
