With winter quickly approaching, many homes are unsafe. Two homes, Kotzebue’s dock, roads, bridges and subsistence camps were destroyed.

Gov. Dunleavy named the fellow Republican to fill a House seat vacated by Josiah Patkotak, who was registered as nonpartisan. 

Seal meat makes up a good portion of what’s in subsistence hunters’ freezers in Kotzebue. But the sea ice the seals haul out on is diminishing, and new research shows that’s shortening the window to hunt seals.
