A new Blood Bank of Alaska location celebrated its grand opening Thursday in Juneau. The region has been served by mobile blood donation facilities in the past, but this is the first permanent center in years.
According to the burglary indictment documents, 35-year-old Shawn Travis Beaird ransacked a pawn shop, a pizza joint and a cooking school in Juneau with a screwdriver.
As the Juneau area dried out over the weekend, residents were able to take stock of the damage from Friday’s record-setting rain. According to the National Weather Service, a total of 3.3 inches of rain fell on downtown Juneau over a 24-hour period Friday.
A flood warning is in effect Friday afternoon for Jordan Creek which has already crested to a record level. The National Weather Service says the rain is forecast to taper off by the evening.
The National Weather Serivce has issued a flood watch for Juneau, Gustavus and Hoonah starting Thursday afternoon.
