An international television production company has optioned the rights for two of memoirs written by a Haines author. The small town may have more than 15 minutes of fame if the show comes to fruition.
On Tuesday, the Haines Borough Assembly officially approved a $55,000 settlement with the former manager they fired in December. Some of the background about why the assembly made that decision came to light this week.
A group of Haines residents is trying to recall half of the borough assembly, including the two newest members. Resident Don Turner Jr., along with nine other people, signed three requests for recall petitions. They accuse Assembly members Tom Morphet, Heather Lende and Tresham Gregg of misconduct in office.
A waterfront trail and park in Haines is estimated to cost close to $6 million, that’s based on plans developed during two rounds of meetings between designers and the community. The preferred plan includes a path on top of the breakwater in the harbor, and a Chilkat blanket design as a unifying theme.
Two candidates have filed for two open seats on the Skagway Borough Assembly. And one more candidate has filed for the assembly race in Haines.
