Advocates for sexual assault and domestic violence programs say the prevention programs were working in Alaska, but state lawmakers slashed funding.
Gov. Bill Walker on Thursday led a Choose Respect rally to end domestic violence and sexual assault in Alaska. Hours later a Senate subcommittee zeroed out the state funding that supports the program.
The state Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault is helping to fund the expansion.
