The unofficial results in other races in the district show hundreds of voters likely split their tickets between Democrats, Republicans and independents.

That lead does not reflect at least 3,699 more early and absentee ballots that remain to be counted. 

The candidates are generally aligned on a lot of big goals, but there’s contrast in how they’d get there.

Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s controversial first budget director, Donna Arduin, returned to Alaska this month to help lead a two-day budget seminar for legislative candidates and new lawmakers.

Ed King has lived in Juneau for four years. Since leaving his job at the state last year, he started his own firm focused on Alaska’s economy. 

The plan looks at what the state would spend over the next 10 years if the Legislature adopts all of Dunleavy’s spending proposals — and if lawmakers and Alaskans amend the state constitution to limit spending.

Alaska lawmakers got some answers this week about the effects of potential budget cuts, but they still face a lot of uncertainty as they weigh funding for government services and permanent fund dividends — or whether to reopen a debate on taxes.

Production was up about 3 million barrels, and the state is predicting that it’s going to be up next year too.
