The Juneau finance committee found a solution to the city’s $4.2 million budget deficit, but will delay decisions on the school district deficit until late fall.

Gov. Bill Walker will discuss his fiscal plan at a special Juneau assembly meeting Thursday afternoon.

Gov. Walker’s budget vetoes earlier this summer have trickled down to local governments. Juneau is no exception, and it’s now facing a $5 million budget deficit.

Rookie state legislator Rep. Dan Ortiz, who represents District 36, is up for re-election in November and said Wrangell residents have expressed concern about the $3.5 billion state budget deficit, the ferry system and a restructuring of the permanent fund.

Democratic Minority Leader Berta Gardner said she was disappointed the legislature couldn’t agree on a comprehensive fiscal plan.
