A 5-acre fire destroyed one home in Haines and spread to State Forest land Monday night. The U.S. Forest Service is now assisting the local volunteer fire department.

NTSB investigating helicopter crash on Herbert Glacier
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating how and why a Juneau-bound helicopter ferrying tourists crashed during a glacier excursion. The pilot and six tourists were treated and released at Juneau’s hospital with minor injuries.

Update: Searchers locate wreckage of missing plane, pilot dead
A Coastal Helicopters crew spotted the wreckage of a missing small plane Thursday afternoon in the Point Howard area between Juneau and Gustavus. A Juneau Mountain Rescue team later found the pilot’s body at the crash site.
