Albert Kookesh, the Tlingit leader, Indigenous rights advocate, culture bearer, politician and basketball player, died Friday at 72. His death is reverberating across the state and his home region of Southeast Alaska.
A memorial service for Tlingit elder and original Sealaska Corporation board member Clarence Jackson will be held Saturday at 5 p.m. at the ANB Hall in Juneau. Jackson died Thursday after a battle with cancer. He was 78.
