Fire Chief Rich Etheridge says Juneau tends to see an increase in residential fires with the onset of cold weather.

The team is made up of a Capital City Fire Rescue paramedic and a Bartlett Regional Hospital clinician. Crisis care consists of immediate response to a situation or crisis, further assessment of the person undergoing the emergency, stabilization, and follow-up involving other services.

Venturing out onto a frozen lake can be extremely dangerous, and several reports of people falling through the ice circulated on social media. 

Capital City Fire/Rescue Assistant Chief Dan Jager says the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Police are searching for a male suspect they say is likely near Berner’s Bay cabin.

City officials said residents who live in landslide-prone areas should “consider making alternative housing plans and/or preparing a go-bag in case of a need to evacuate.”

Police said there were no immediate signs of foul play.

Juneau’s fire marshal says the recent fires aren’t connected and there isn’t any evidence of crime, but there is a common thread – using heaters for the first time with the onset of cold weather. 

About a dozen people who left the neighborhood ended up at a temporary shelter set up by the Red Cross and Capital City Fire/Rescue.

The kits have two doses of Narcan, a fentanyl testing strip and a safe bag to dispose of pills.
