Indigenous artists say the disqualification raises questions of who gets to be heard in Juneau’s art community, and who doesn’t.

It was at a Tlingit celebration that Rinehart first fell in love with Chilkat weaving, a traditional style marked by its curved lines and simple color palette.

The signs are one more nod to indigenous people and culture in Juneau in a string of similar public gestures, big and small. 

Regular students will study alongside community members taking advantage of the non-credit option.
