Anchorage natural gas company ENSTAR is asking state regulators to allow it to bill its customers to recover $1 million in costs from last year’s major earthquake.
Anchorage’s historical record of the Nov. 30 quake will now include viral memes and verses published via Facebook and Twitter, says Anchorage Museum director Julie Decker.
The Federal Highway Commission released the funds Saturday after it said it received a request from Alaska Gov. Bill Walker and the state transportation commissioner, Marc Luiken.
Some outages still remain, but those are few and far between. The area’s three power providers are still assessing damage from the quake, which triggered outages for most of Anchorage on Friday.
As of Saturday morning, the state Department of Transportation had documented over 40 damaged sites. Drivers are advised to add significant time to their commute if they plan on traveling through those areas.
