The volume or overall number of 911 calls increased dramatically, as much as 40 percent over the past eight years, a recent study says. Experts say there aren’t enough firefighters and EMTs to respond to simultaneous or overlapping calls for medical emergencies and structures.

Juneau woman sentenced in unemployment fraud
According to an Alaska Department of Labor news release, Naomi Weitzel pleaded guilty in July to felony theft of the unemployment benefits. A Superior Court judge handed down a 12-month suspended sentence, 65 hours of community service, and Weitzel will be on probation for three years.
