Support 360 North

Consider making a financial donation to 360 North.  Contributions from viewers are used to support programming efforts — getting interesting programs from around the country, and creating Alaska programs for Alaskans.  If you’ve recently seen our spots on television, you probably know that we don’t ask often.  But, support from our viewers keeps public broadcasting like 360 North and Alaska Public Television on the air.  Please give what you can.   It only takes a couple of minutes.  Thanks.

The Alaska Governor’s House DVD

–  Contribute to 360 North  –  You can support programming that you enjoy and receive a copy of  The Alaska Governor’s House: A House We Called Home for your personal library.  All 360 North contributors through the end of January will receive a complimentary copy of this Alaska history documentary as a gift of thanks from us.  All current and new members are eligible.
About the program:  Six of Alaska’s First Ladies since statehood met in Juneau during the summer of 2005 to share their memories about the Alaska Governor’s house, a house they all once called home. See the ballroom, used to host USO dances during World War II, two Chippendale chairs that are the oldest pieces of furniture in the house, an original Territorial Seal that had been painted over and not revealed until the major 1986 renovation, and the infrequently seen First Family’s private living area.

Gavel Alaska – Starts Next Week

January 15 marks the beginning of the Alaska Legislature for this session.  Gavel Alaska will provide “Gavel to Gavel” coverage of the proceedings on 360 North Television and 360north.org.  Before our lawmakers convene, 360north.org and gavelalaska.org will provide a new web interface for getting information, watching meetings and finding proceedings of interest to you in our media archives.  The sites will combine in early January to give you a “one stop” web location for information about Alaska and our government.  Watch for the soon coming changes on gavelalaska.org and 360north.org.  And, join us to watch the first day of the legislative session and the events that surround a new year of coverage of Alaska government.

Bears of the Last Frontier – Part 3

–  Wednesdays at 8:00 pm  –    In episode three, Chris Morgan travels to the far north of Alaska, to the North Slope village of Kaktovik. It’s early November and winter is coming on. But each year, the polar bears struggle for extended periods on dwindling fat reserves, waiting for the opportunity to hunt on sea ice that takes longer to freeze. In early spring, Morgan joins local hunters in Barrow, the northernmost city in Alaska, as they go out on their own hunts, facing some of the same challenges as the bears. In late spring, Morgan travels to the North Slope of the Brooks Range, where countless thousands of caribou cover the ground for miles. The grizzlies are waiting for them, as they have for thousands of years.
