The Alaska General Store was broken into Wednesday night and a wide range of pieces were stolen. Sarah Stucky owns the Franklin Street shop. She said she was cleaned out.

“Thirty years of antique jewelry: ivory, collectible, costume jewelry, diamonds, (an) 18 karat gold Tlingit bracelet,” Stucky said.

The thief broke in through the storefront window. The store doesn’t have video cameras or an alarm system.

Stucky said she lost hundreds of items from her jewelry case; some expensive estate jewelry, some costume jewelry and even cheap collectibles. She said she spent the past 30 to 40 years building the collection and it’s all irreplaceable.

“Thousands and thousands of dollars. I haven’t gotten there yet but just my estate rings alone were worth over $10,000,” Stucky said.

Stucky is compiling a list of what was taken — she says it’s 20 pages long and growing. She has insurance but isn’t sure if it will cover the full value of what was lost. If it doesn’t, she said the theft could put her out of business.

Stucky wouldn’t say if she knew who broke into her store but she suspects the burglary was drug-related.
