Juneau police report unattended death early Saturday

Stanwood Anthony Whitely, 45, was found by police officers in an alcove on downtown’s Front Street just before 3 a.m. Saturday.

According to a Juneau Police Department release, Whitely wasn’t breathing and officers said they started CPR until emergency medical technicians arrived. Whitely was later declared dead.

Police said alcohol may have been a factor in what appears to be death by natural causes.

Whitely’s relatives have been notified of his death, and his body is being flown to Anchorage for an autopsy.
