Update | Oct. 9, 2014 – 7:06 p.m.

Juneau Police have now identified the 33-year-old male driver killed in the crash as Justin Donald Priest after notifying his family.

The department is also apologizing for a foul up — it incorrectly contacted a different Priest family in Palmer with a son named Justin. According to a police statement, JPD Chief Bryce Johnson personally called that family to apologize for the error.

Juneau Police say they’re still investigating a single vehicle crash that killed a man and injured two other people Wednesday night. The vehicle hit a tree on Mendenhall Boulevard near Cedar Drive at about 9 p.m.

Identity of the 33-year-old male driver, who died at the scene, has not been released as his relatives have not yet been notified.

An unindentified 30-year-old female passenger suffered minor injuries and was able to walk from the scene. A 50-year-old male passenger was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries.

Juneau Police Officer John Cryderman says alcohol and speed may have been factors in the crash.

Cryderman says traffic was restricted on Mendenhall Boulevard between Birch Lane and Poplar Avenue for about four hours during the emergency response and subsequent investigation.
