Marine Highway operations may be privatized

Future ferry service for small Southeast communities could resemble the type of contracted service that’s been used to fill in for the damaged state ferry Le Conte. Ferry officials have said they want to set up faster, more frequent service and add Gustavus – perhaps using catamarans. But a Juneau lawmaker is worried that changes are already in the works before communities have weighed in … and they’re happening through union negotiations. Anne Sutton has more.
