VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Music Programming

Rain country Radio and Excellent Radio offer some great opportunities for local folks to be volunteer DJ's.

Rain Country Radio is primarily locally hosted and offers just about every kind of music immaginable. We rely on community members like you to share your musical knowledge and enthusiasm.

Excellent Radio is a single format, mainstream pop station that looks to incorporate a range of local voices as announcers. If you're looking for a more structured environment to learn the art of radio broadcast, while playing some great tunes from the Excellent library, this is the place for you.

Typically, the prospective volunteer goes through a short orientation process to make sure they feel at home at KTOO. After that, technical training begins, followed by individual practice sessions and looking over the shoulders of people in the process of doing a show.

Once the prospective volunteer feels comfortable, the staff tries to fit them in the schedule, either as a regular host if there is space available or as a fill in for current volunteers who can not make their show.

As the opportunities for more programs grow, so will our need for trained and enthusiastic volunteers, both on and off the air. If you're interested in getting involved, please call Jeff Brown or Andy Kline at 586-1670 during business hours or fill out the webform and someone on staff will contact you.

Other On-Air Programming

KTOO News presents many opportunities for volunteer produced spoken word prgorams. These can range from poetry and storytelling debates and community forums. As one would expect, to make for the best possible radio, opportunities like these also involve commensurate commitment.

Fund-Raising and Special Events

KTOO produces several events throughout the year in which volunteers play major roles. These range from our semi-annual auction to the Festival of Seafood. It's a fun way to help out for those who wish to support public radio, but don't have the time to volunteer on a regular basis on the air.

Our Membership Drives also make use of a variety of volunteers from the community, as well as various community organizations. Opportunities here include on-air pitching, answering phones, and providing background help.

Other Opportunities

With the large volume of music that comes into the station, volunteers are also often used to help sort and file the incoming CDs. This requires little time commitment, and only demands knowledge of the alphabet.
