Public Broadcasting From Alaska's Capital |
|
In addition to producing programs, KTOO can offer one of the most extensive distribution systems in Alaska, via any combination of the four public television channels, cable television systems and public radio networks and stations. KTOO can distribute radio and television programs and other audio and video services via several options. KTOO can receive audio and video services and programs from multiple sources. This means that KTOO can reach virtually every community in Alaska, and can access many outside sources of programming. These delivery options include: Alaska One: The PBS/Alaska program service, which reaches 56 communities and a potential audience of 185,000. Alaska Two: KTOO's own Gavel to Gavel Alaska cable channel which reaches 35 cable systems and a potential audience of 430,000 Alaskans. Alaska Three: The University of Alaska’s distance delivery education satellite service, which reaches sites in over 30 communities. Alaska Four: The Alaska Rural Communications Service, reaching 248 rural towns and villages and a potential audience of over 100,000 rural Alaskan viewers. Alaska Public Radio Network: The state's system of 27 interconnected public radio stations. Special Networks: Include hand-offs to other satellite distribution systems in the Northwest and on the Pacific Rim. We can also provide digital receivers on a temporary basis to any site equipped with a satellite dish capable of receiving Aurora II. KTOO operates a dual-thread MPEG-II, DVB compliant Scientific Atlanta PowerVu digital satellite system encoder.
