A search and rescue wrapped up Tuesday morning with three people returned safely to Levelock. Danielle Dobkins, Ivon Washington, and Paul Chukwak, all in their 40s, had made a trip to Naknek by four-wheeler Sunday morning, and had broken down on the return trip on Sunday evening.
The Coast Guard Cutter SPAR is safe at its home port at Coast Guard Base Kodiak after a high seas adventure over the weekend. The fishing vessel Lady Gudny experienced engine trouble Thursday night and became disabled nearly 300 miles south of Kodiak.
Law enforcement officials identified the bodies of Mark Matter, 62, and his wife Cecilia Matter, 63, of Aniak. The two were longtime residents of the small Alaskan village, and leave behind an impossible-to-fill void for friends and family.
