Nome woman found dead in Anchorage parking lot
A missing person case for Anchorage police turned into a death investigation on Thursday. A graduate of Nome-Beltz Junior/Senior High School, Martina Painter, 25, was found dead Thursday afternoon. She was the only person in a blue four-door Dodge Dart located in a parking lot near University Lake Park in Anchorage.

City Manager Dave Martinson said there simply aren’t enough police officers to cover the workload. In the last year, he said the department has denied 20 leave requests because of insufficient staffing.
No foul play suspected in death of Juneau man found in woods
Brandon Shaun Estes, 23, was found dead near a mudslide chute above Gastineau Avenue by a hiker Friday afternoon, according to a Juneau Police Department news release. His body showed signs of being unattended in the woods and he had no identification on him.
